I thought I'd post up the rules for competitive play. Most tournaments will follow Smogon's rules.

Banned Pokemon:
Arceus
Darkrai
Deoxys (All forms)
Dialga
Garchomp
Giratina
Groudon
Ho-oh
Kyogre
Latios
Lugia
Manaphy
Mew
Mewtwo
Palkia
Rayquaza
Wobbuffet
Wynaut xD

Also here are the traditional battling rules, named Clauses:

Freeze Clause
Only 1 pokemon allowed frozen at a time. If you freeze more than one pokemon, your opponent gets half a point victory.

Sleep Clause
Only 1 pokemon allowed sleeping at a time. If you put another one of your opponent's pokemon to sleep, your opponent gets game victory. Rest other such moves are excluded.

Species Clause
Can't have more than one type of pokemon on a team. That means no two Salamences.

Item Clause
Only one type of item on your team. For example, you can't equip two Leftovers on two pokemon, you're limited to one.

Hax Item Clause
The following items are banned:
- Bright Powder
- Focus Band
- King's Rock
- Lax Incense
- Lucky Punch
- Quick Claw
- Razor Claw
- Razor fang
- Scope Lens
- Stick

Self-KO Clause
You cannot use moves like Explosion or Destiny Bond on your last Pokémon if it will force a tie.

Evasion Clause
Moves that specifically increase evasion are banned. Double Team is an example of a banned move.

OHKO Clause
Moves that have a chance of OHKOing a Pokémon are banned. An example is Sheer Cold.

Games are best out of three, and you're allowed to have a 6 pokemon team with 3 others you may substitute for the second and third game.

Here's a few things i've recently found out about Breeding. A pkmn with "Flame Body" or "Magma Armor" does half the waking time, but they don't stack, by that i mean you can't cut the waking spaces to 1/4 by having a one pkmn with "Flame Body" and one pkmn with "Magma Armor" ablity.

Ummm can anyone explain to me how to EV? When you kill pokemon a pokemon with the Effort value you want how do you level up? lol. Also can anyone explain to me what IV is and how does ti work?

To Chris; here a page from serebii.net about EV training. thing is it's only in Ruby and Shaphire that they metion how it really works because that's when it was introduced and so i gets confusing to look up info on it. http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/ev.shtml
