PostSubject: Tcwalter07's Guide to Black Garden   Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:45 pm

This is a c/p job from tcgplayer. Here is my guide to Black Garden.

Whenever I go through the forums looking at various plant decks, I see many more Plant aggro/OTK decks than Control. The reason being Plants have been an aggro/OTK deck since the release of Phantom Darkness. Then, when Crossroads of Chaos came out, Plants got a little field spell by the name of Black Garden:
When a monster is Normal or Special Summoned, except by the effect of "Black Garden", halve its ATK and Special Summon 1 "Rose Token" (Plant-Type/DARK/Level 2/ATK 800/DEF 800) to its controller's opponent's side of the field, in Attack Position. You can destroy this card and all face-up Plant-Type monsters on the field and Special Summon 1 monster with ATK equal to the total ATK of those monsters from your Graveyard.

Now first I want to point out some very important things. 1. Black Garden does not affect Flip Summons. 2. Black Garden does activate during damage step and can hit Gorz. 3. Black Garden does not halve DEF. 4. Black Garden is intended as a control deck.
Let us now look at the so far only SJC succesful Black Garden build, Jerome Mchale's "Blackest Garden"

Monsters(17)
2x Tytannial, Princess of Camellias
3x Botanical Lion
2x Lord Poison
2x Nettles
1x Sangan
3x Lonefire Blossom
1x Card Trooper
3x Cyber Vally
1x Gigantic Cephalotus

Spells(12)
3x Black Garden
2x Terraforming
3x Mark of the Rose
2x Miracle Fertilizer
1x Monster Reborn
1x Giant Turnade

Traps(11)
3x Solemn Judgment
3x Pollinosis
3x Phoenix Wing Wind Blast
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Mirror Force

So now I should tell what all of these non-common knowledge cards do, so here we go.

Violet Witch
Attribute: DARK
Types: Spellcaster/Effect
Level: Level 4
ATK/DEF: 1100/1200
Number: 62379337
Card Effect Type(s): Trigger
Lore(s): [hide]v • d • e English:

When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, add 1 Plant-Type monster with 1500 or less DEF from your Deck to your hand

I nice new searcher that fits in perfectly with the tomato engine. I would run 1-2.

Twilight Rose Knight
Attribute: DARK
Types: Warrior/Tuner
Level: Level 3
ATK/DEF: 1000/1000
Number: 02986553
Card Effect Type(s): Continuous/Trigger
Lore(s): [hide]v • d • e English:

Your opponent cannot select a Plant-Type monster as an attack target. When this card is Normal Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Plant-Type monster from your hand.

Not needed, but can be good in Dark Garden. In standard Black Garden however, I would run 1 if any.

Tytannial, Princess of Camillias:
Attribute: WIND
Types: Plant/Effect
Level: Level 8
ATK/DEF: 2800/2600
Number: 11819616
Card Effect Type(s): Quick
Lore(s): [hide]v • d • e English:

You can Tribute 1 face-up Plant-Type monster you control to negate the activation of a Spell, Trap, or Effect Monster's effect that targets a card(s) on the field and destroy it.

The key monster of the BG strategy. Run 2.

Botanical Lion:
Attribute: EARTH
Types: Plant/Effect
Level: Level 4
ATK/DEF: 1600/2000
Number: 20546916
Card Effect Type(s): Continuous
Lore(s): [hide]v • d • e English:

This card gains 300 ATK for each Plant-Type monster you control. Control of this face-up card cannot switch.

So key. The best beatstick Garden has. You can set it, flip it, and have a fully ready, strong beatsick that can get bigger as you go.

Lord Poison:
Attribute: WATER
Types: Plant/Effect
Level: Level 4
ATK/DEF: 1500/1000
Number: 40320754
Card Effect Type(s): Trigger
Lore(s): v • d • e English:

When this card is destroyed as a result of battle and sent to the Graveyard, Special Summon 1 Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard to your side of the field except "Lord Poison".

A pretty good revival card. It doesn't have to be in every deck. But is can be very good. If any, run 1-2.

Nettles:
Attribute: EARTH
Types: Plant/Tuner
Level: Level 2
ATK/DEF: 1200/400
Number: 19505896
Card Effect Type(s): Trigger
Lore(s): [hide]v • d • e English:

If this face-up card would be destroyed, you can destroy 1 face-up Plant-Type monster you control instead.

I would run at least one. Like Lord Poison, you don't need it in every deck. But it can be helpfull.

Gigantic Cephalotus:
Attribute: EARTH
Types: Plant/Effect
Level: Level 4
ATK/DEF: 1850/700
Number: 82116191
Card Effect Type(s): Trigger
Lore(s): [hide]v • d • e English:

This card gains 200 ATK each time a Plant-Type monster is sent to the Graveyard.

I think this guy is not all that hot. You should replace him with Rai-oh if you have him, or only run one if any.

Mark of the Rose:
Type: Spell Cards
Property: Equip
Number: 45247637
Lore(s): [hide]v • d • e English:

Remove from play 1 Plant-type monster from your Graveyard and equip this card to a monster your opponent controls. Gain control of the equipped monster. During your End Phase, give control of the equipped monster to your opponent. During your Standby Phase, gain control of the equipped monster.

Needed in evry Black Garden deck. Depending on the number of Valleys and nettles, run 2-3.

Miracle Fertilizer:
Type: Spell Cards
Property: Continuous
Number: 44887817
Lore(s): v • d • e English:

Once per turn, you can select 1 Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard and Special Summon it. You cannot Normal Summon or Set the turn you Special Summon a monster with this effect. If a monster Special Summoned by this effect is removed from the field, destroy this card

A very good card. Run 1-2.

Pollinosis:
Type: Trap Cards
Property: Counter
Number: 91078716
Lore(s): [hide]v • d • e English:

Tribute 1 Plant-Type monster. Negate the activation of a Spell or Trap Card, or the Normal or Special Summon of a monster, and destroy that card.

Needed. A very fine peice of protection/ Negation/ Synchro Stopping, it is needed at 2-3 in every Garden deck.

Now I know that is a lot to take in, but many people reading this probably aleady know what most of these cards do.

One of the main goals in Jerome's and many other Black Garden decks is to get out an un-halved Tytannial, a Black Garden with either a Solemn Judgement or a Pollinosis facedown. You see, Black Garden's tokens can be offered by Tytannial to stop everything that targets anything on the field and destroy it. It basically makes DAD weep. Now that can be a pretty common start. With Pollinosis this deck runs basically six copies of Solemn Judgement. Another good start in here is setting Botanical Lion with or without the Garden. Odds are if your oppenent is playing tele-DAD they will summon Stratos and attack Lion. Then 200 Life Points go down the drain, and you can attack with Lion over stratos next turn.
Now we'll look at the cards this deck can "abuse." The number one card(other than Black Garden of course) is Mark of the Rose. Wow. This card is epic. This deck can abuse it in a variety of ways, for starters, it can take any monster that may have eluded Black Garden one way or another and use it against them (you have to give it back and the end phase but you get it back agian anyway.) Another great way to abuse it is Cyber Valley. Just take, attack, summon Valley, and remove to draw two. Then there is the only tuner in here, Nettles. Nettles is a very good way to get the most bang for your buck with Mark of the Rose. Jack something like you opponent's stratos to make Goyo, or something like their Caius to make any Level 8 Synchro. Nettles really is a good card in Black Garden.
Now let's shift our focus from abusing Mark to using revival. 'Blackest Garden" has 4 peices of revival. 2 Miracle Fertilizer and 2 Lord Poison. Remember, the monster brought out by Lord Poison's effect gets hit by Black Garden. Miracle Fertilizer obviously also gets hit if Garden is out. Getting out Tytannial in DEF can be a great move if Garden is out and your opponent has the biggest monster.
The two Terraformings help get Garden to your hand as quickley as possible. The faster Garden gets out, the better the shape your in.

The Traps scream one thing "Control." 6 Solemns, 3 Wind Blasts, a Torrential, and a Mirror Force are what this deck has got. They all work to keep you as the one running the show.

Since we've dicussed Jerome's deck, Let's discuss another build, one of mine.

Thorn:
Monsters:17

3 Botanical Lion
3 Lonefire Blossom
2 Cyber Valley
2 Tytannail, Princess of Camellias
2 Psychic Commander
1 Lord Poison
1 Sangan
2 Rai-oh
1 Card Trooper

Spells:13

3 Black Garden
2 Terraforming
3 Mark of the Rose
2 Miracle Fertilizer
1 Monster Reborn
1 Giant Trunade
1 Heavy Storm

Traps:10

3 Solemn Judgement
3 Pollinosis
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Mirror Force

Now my deck is pretty simiar to Jerome's, but it isn't a carbon copy. The three main differences are Psychic Commander, Rai-oh and CED. I like Psychic Commander. The reason Psychic Commander is here is to not only provide a tuner to get out Black Rose Dragon if you lose control, but to also serve as a good beatstick. When he is affected by Black Garden, Commander can kamakazie with a monster also under the influence of garden who originally had 2400 attack. When he is not under the effect of Garden and the oppossing monster is, he can take out monsters with up to 3600 original attack. CED is here to act as a no cost PWWB. Either one works but I like CED. Rai-oh is amazing. If you open with Rai-oh and a Garden, You have almost as much control against Tele-dad if you had Tytannial and Garden instead. Play 2-3. (3 works best)

Each Black Garden deck varies, and should vary. Black Garden shouldn't be a "net deck and win" type of deck. It should be made to suit the owner's playstyle. If you want to build a Black Garden deck, go ahead and use "Thorn" or "Blackest Garden" as a structure, but do not net deck it down to the letter.

TECH CARDS

Time for some cards that can be worked into some Garden builds to hurt some decks specifically or to suit playstyles.

Destiny Hero Plasma

This is fun. He is not only a Level 8 (making him a target along with Tytannial for Trade-in,) but he can also tribute tokens for his summoning. He also just plain says "no" to your opponent's monsters. In more ways than one. Let's say your opponent got out a monster that escaped Garden's effect, just suck em' up and fight back. Snipe Hunter? Breaker? DAD? Not with Plasma on the feild. All monster effcts get closed down faster than a McDonald's with a health code violation.

Lava Golem

He is also lucky enough to be a level 8 (also a target for Trade-in) and has the ability to put your opponent in a very small corner. Just tribute your opponents tokens or monsters and let the fun begin. Just leave him there to slowly chip your opponents away or attack it after using it to kill off their big monster for Golem's tributes.

Thunder King Rai-Oh
This card should be a staple. It has a strong 1900 atk, an amazing effect, and is just plain adds concistancy to the deck. The fact that it's effect makes Tele-dads use of ROTA, Stratos, and their synchros nearly impossible, puts antother nail in Tele-dad's oversized coffin.

Rivalry of the Warlords

Let's just say that you decide to go first and have any monster with more than 1600 atk, Rivalry of the Warlords, and a Terraforming or Black Garden. Play Garden, summon monster, set RotW, and end. See where this is going?
Your opponent now has a Token, you have RotW. Play Rivalry, throw in a Solemn, and your opponent isn't going to be summonig any time soon.

Fragrence Storm

This card has it's ups and downs. For starters, massive ability to be dead-drawn. But, if you don't dead draw it, it has got some real potential. Kill you token, kill your opponents token, as long as your killing a token, it is at worst an upstart goblin, and at best a Pot of Greed. This card relly depends on the player's deck and playstyle. If it suits you, run it. If not don't.

Horus LV6

Now here is a fun one. If you need to get out a big monster while Garden is on the feild, look no further. Just tribute one of the excess tokens from Garden and bring LV6 out. Garden can't lay a thorn on this one. Neither can your opponent's spells. You can tech two of him in the side deck , or even main deck it in a variant. He is almost impossible to kill when it and Black Garden is out. Only Traps can take LV6 out, and you will probably have a Solemn or Pollinosis set to stop that too. I say Side Deck 2 for decks that play a lot of spells.

GEARTOWN!!
Now I find that this is the number 1 tech card I have played thus far (Save Rai-oh because I consider him a staple.) I ran my Garden deck with Geartown teched to make my "Geargarden" build. It got me 3rd place at UDE Day Tulsa. Here is what it looks like:

Monsters: 18

3 Botanical Lion
3 Lonefire Blossom
3 Thunder King Rai-oh
2 Tytannial, Princess of Camellias
2 Mystic Tomato
1 Snipe Hunter
1 Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon
1 Dandylion
1 Plaguespreader Zombie
1 Sangan

Spells: 14

3 Black Garden
3 Terraforming
2 Geartown
2 Lightning Vortex
1 Miracle Fertilizer
1 Monster Reborn
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mark of the Rose

Traps:9

3 Solemn Judgement
2 Pollinosis
2 Phoenix Wing Wind Blast
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Mirror Force

The reason this deck was so succesful was because of the Geartown portion. I allowes for easy access to a giant beastsick while sacrificing no card advantage. I have heard the skeptics and the critics saying that it couldn't have possibly done so well or that mu UDE Day must have not been hard. I have yet to find any resonable post or comment that has said negative things about this deck. If you want a cheap, efficiant way to add power to your Garden deck, try a couple geartown and a Gadjiltron and see how you like it. Dont bother asking my permission, I'll certainly say yes, just PM me the finished deck and I'll comment on it.

That's all for now!

(comment if your not too lazy.)
